A Novena to the Holy Spirit
All novenas originate from the nine days between the ascension of our Lord to Pentecost Sunday. Mary, the apostles, the brothers of Jesus and many other disciples spent these nine days in prayer, awaiting the promised Spirit of Fire and Light (Acts 1:6-14). This novena may be used each year between The Ascencion and Pentecost; for the vigil of a Baptism or Confirmation or their anniversaries; and at any time to invoke the assistance of the Holy Spirit.

HYMM TO THE HOLY SPIRIT CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THIS HYMN
Like the murmur of the dove's song, like the challenge of her flight, like the vigour of the wind's rush, like the new flame's eager might: come, Holy Spirit, come.
To the members of Christ's Body, to the branches of the Vine, to the Church in faith assembled, to her midst as gift and sign: come, Holy Spirit, come.
With the healing of division, with the ceaseless voice of prayer, with the power to love and witness, with the peace beyond compare: come, Holy Spirit, come.
PSALM 27:1-6
The Household of Faith
ANTIPHON
I baptize you with water;
~ALL~ He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me, to devour my flesh, my adversaries and foes shall stumble and fall.
Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arrise against me, yet I will be confident.
One thing I ask of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire on the Lord's temple.
The Lord will hide me in a shelter in the day of trouble; will conceal me under the cover of a tent, and will set me high upon a rock.
Now my head is lifted up above my enemies round about me; and I will offer sacrafices in the Lord's tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
~ALL~ I baptize you with water; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Psalm Prayer

(pause for quiet prayer)
Heavenly King, Consoler, Spirit of truth, present in all places and filling all things, treasury of blessing and giver of life; Come and dwell in us, cleans us from every stain of sin, and save our souls, O gracious Lord.
~ALL~ AMEN
READING
Pouring Fourth of the Spirit
Isaiah 44:1-5
The Lord says, "I am the Lord who created you; from the time you were born, I have helped you. Do not be afraid; you are my servant, my chosen people whom I love. I will give water to the thirsty land and make streams flow on the dry ground. I will pour out my spirit on your children and my blessings on your descendants. They will thrive like well watered grass, like willows by streams of running water. One by one, people will say, 'I am the Lord's.' Each one will mark the name of the Lord on his arms and call himself one of God's people.
